Rising Tides

Join us as GWUSCS's adversarial mega games return this semester with the seventh edition of Rising Tides, our annual U.S. China Simulation. This year's virtual Rising Tides explores the implications of a unilateral declaration of independence by a new Taiwanese government elected in 2029 for the bilateral relationship and for the region, in the context of a serious military escalation between the PRC and ROC.

As the shadow of war looms over the Taiwan Strait, the U.S. has been faced with a terrible strategic dilemma: make good on its ambiguous commitment to defend Taiwan and risk catastrophic war with China, or do nothing and risk the unraveling of its network of alliances in Asia. The outgoing administration had no answer to the problem, but the new one has promised to address it. In Rising Tides, participants will be asked to decide how.

Rising Tides will take place on Saturday, February 20th, 2021, from 11:30 AM EST to 4:30 PM EST. This simulation will be held over Discord, a free communications platform ideal for handling large numbers of people in flexible team-aligned channels. Registration is open to the GW community.
